Catholic Charities has operated Counseling Offices in major population areas throughout the fifteen-county Diocese as far back as 1928 when the first office in York was established. Today, six Counseling Offices are predominantly known and utilized for professional family and individual counseling; services whose roots took hold back in 1977 when the agency instituted its in-service training in structural family therapy which continues even today. These offices are located in Chambersburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, Coal Township, Danville and York.
All of the counseling offices provide four essential functions:

  • Professional counseling in a wide spectrum of problem areas - mental health, child rearing, pregnancy, adoption, depression, anxiety, physical and marital abuse and other related problems
  • When necessary, referral to other services provided in the surrounding community should specific-needs arise
  • Coordination with other Catholic Charities' services such as adoption or maternity care or other Diocesan programs
  • Based upon local needs, additional or ancillary services may be provided in the form of group therapy programs, participation in coalitions, task forces, etc.

What is the cost?
All counseling services are on a sliding fee schedule. Each case is determined individually. No one is denied services based on ability to pay.

Who is eligible?
Any individual or family is eligible for counseling services. Services are offered to all persons without regard to race, religion, gender, age, condition, or ability to pay.
