Youth and Young Adults — CYO

Catholic Youth Ministry has its origins in the Catholic Youth Organization. In 1930 CYO began as a way of involving young people in the life of the Church through athletics. This movement later evolved and expanded into what we now consider Catholic Youth Ministry. CYO continues to exist in the Diocese of Harrisburg as a youth basketball program. Each year over 4,200 boys and girls from 30 parish and consolidated schools play on 305 teams led by approximately 550 coaches. This important element of Youth Ministry provides a tremendous opportunity and responsibility to touch the lives of our young people and involve them in the greater community of Church.

Our office serves as the point of contact for CYO basketball within the diocese and hosts League Commissioner Meetings, Annual Parish Contact Meetings, a New Coaches’ Orientation Program and several tournaments.

While supplies last – “Parents as Partners in Catholic Youth Sports” Flyer – Available free of charge from the Office for Youth & Young Adult Ministry.
