The parish in which Cardinal William Keeler was raised, educated and celebrated countless liturgies offered a memorial Mass for its native son on the evening of March 28, just a few hours after his Mass of Christian Burial in Baltimore.
For Michael Ciccocioppo, whose family members were parishioners at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Marysville during then-Father William Keeler’s days there, the definition of the late cardinal’s sincerity is woven into a story of women’s silk stockings and Italian cheeses.
Opus Fac Evangelistae. “Do The Work of an Evangelist.” The Episcopal motto of Cardinal William H. Keeler embodied every aspect of his ministry. Evangelization was a hallmark of his service to the Church, say those who worked closely with him in the Diocese of Harrisburg.
The Diocese of Harrisburg has announced that the memory of Cardinal William H. Keeler will be honored and prayerfully remembered with a traditional Month’s Mind Mass that will be held on Sunday, April 23 at Saint Patrick Cathedral, 212 State Street, Harrisburg, PA. This Mass will be held at 4 p.m.
It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Cardinal William H. Keeler. He served as Bishop of this Diocese from 1983 to 1989. He was a true Churchman whom we are greatly honored to have called a priest of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
