Faith, Elections, and Citizenship

April 8 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

“Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern.” – Pope Francis

The issues we face as a society, and particularly as Catholics, are complex and often prompt divisiveness. This is certainly true this year as we prepare for a series of major elections that will set the landscape for the future of not only our local communities but for the world.

Join us on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a discussion with Eric Failing, Executive Director for the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, on, “Faith, Elections, and Citizenship” at the Diocesan Conference Center.

Mr. Failing will be focusing on a document called “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States.” and expects to entertain questions as part of the event.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has consistently encouraged Catholics to become informed and involved citizens, issuing documents related to faith and citizenship since 1976.

The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference, the public affairs arm of the Commonwealth’s Catholic bishops and dioceses, works to inform and educate the Catholic faithful, legislators and the general public about issues important to Catholics.

The document can be found in its entirety at https://www.usccb.org/offices/justice-peace-human-development/forming-consciences-faithful-citizenship
