LARC Day of Dialogue
October 23, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Our annual Lutheran-Anglican-Roman Catholic (LARC) Vespers will be on Sunday, October 22 at 4 PM at United Lutheran Seminary Gettysburg Campus Chapel. Our LARC Day of Dialogue will be Monday, October 23 from 9 AM – 3 PM at the Cardinal Keeler Center, Harrisburg. These events will take special note of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation as well as our progress on the path to Christian Unity. The speaker for the Day of Dialogue will be Bishop Emeritus Donald J. McCoid, who had a key role in creating the document Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry and Eucharist, which summarizes Lutheran-Catholic dialogue since 1965.[Download not found]
In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, we will look at Affirmations of Unity. We will examine the Ecumenical Imperatives from the document From Conflict to Communion and we will look at how the document Declaration on the Way came to be. While these documents grew out of Lutheran-Catholic dialogue, they are applicable to Anglican Communion as well.
Attendees are invited to read these documents before arriving at the Day of Dialogue. The Reverend DonaldJ. McCoid served as the Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America from 2007 to 2016. He has traveled extensively for ecumenical work in Asia, Africa, and Europe. He has made three church-to-church visitations to the Vatican in Rome, the Arch-bishop of Canterbury in England, the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul, and the World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation in Geneva. He helped to prepare Declaration on the Way.
