Nicæa 1,700
The First Council of Nicæa met in 325 a.d. to bring peace to the Church by teaching about Christ and by establishing a common date for Easter. It was the first large-scale gathering of Christian leaders. As we celebrate the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicæa, this year’s Lutheran-Anglican-Roman Catholic Dialogue will feature speakers to discuss the background of the Council, how it took the Christian faith to the culture of the time, how it addressed Christian life, and the ongoing importance of the Creed for contemporary Churches.
Speakers include:
- Fr. Robert Pesarchick, Emeritus Professor of Systematic Theology, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, on the background of the Council and the teaching of the Council on Jesus Christ.
- Msgr. Michael Magee, Professor of Systematic Theology and Sacred Scripture, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, on the disciplinary canons of the Council.
- The Rev. Canon Dr. Kara Slade, Associate Rector of Trinity Church, Princeton, and Canon Theological of the Diocese of New Jersey, on the Creed as Gift.
- Rev. Jonathan Linman, Ph.D., Associate Pastor for Teaching, Faith Formation and Spiritual Care, Faith-La Fe Lutheran Church, Phoenix, Arizona, on Filioque: An Invitation to Conversation on the Trinitarian Mysteries.
The day will also include prayer according to the three LARC traditions, lunch together, a panel discussion, as well as time for dialogue and discussion.
