Pilgrimage to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception
November 3, 2018
This Diocesan Pilgrimage to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. will be the first time Bishop Gainer will lead our diocese to Washington since he was installed in 2014. The schedule for the day includes Mass and time for confessions, private prayer, touring of the Shrine, and visiting the spacious book & gift shops or having a bite to eat in the cafeteria. Those wishing to attend should contact their parish as the parishes will be making their own arrangements for bus transportation from their parish to the Shrine and determining pickup locations, times, cost, etc. Smaller parishes may wish to join with others in reserving buses as a region. For those wishing to drive on their own there is ample parking at the Shrine. This is a day of Prayer and Penance as designated by Bishop Ronald W. Gainer as part of a Year of Penance, August 2018 through August 2019, throughout the Diocese of Harrisburg, in atonement for the sins of clergy sexual abuse. |
Certain days throughout this year have been designated as days for the entire church (clergy, religious, lay members) to gather and pray for the healing of survivors and for the Church. Parishes are encouraged to host special masses, confession/penance services, exposition/adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and participate in acts of penance. Individuals are encouraged to participate in these special services and to complete their own acts of penance, including fasting.
This pilgrimage is a part of the 150th Anniversary Celebration of the Diocese of Harrisburg.
