Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On behalf of the entire Diocese of Harrisburg, I write to offer prayers and many blessings to all of our Hispanic sisters and brothers for Hispanic Heritage Month. From September 15 to October 15, we celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and faith the Hispanic communities bring to our local Church.
To our Hispanic faithful, you are a great blessing to the Church in Harrisburg! Your active participation in our parishes and in so many aspects of the life of our communities are truly inspiring, and reflect the vital role you have in the life of the Catholic Church throughout the United States. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), Hispanic Catholics now represent nearly 50% of all Catholics in the U.S. This remarkable presence demonstrates not just numbers, but your deep commitment to the faith and to family that enriches our parishes and communities. Your vibrant cultural traditions, faith-filled practices, and unwavering spirit contribute to the broader mission of evangelization and service within our Church.
During this month, we not only celebrate the contributions of Hispanic Catholics, but also reflect on the challenges they face. Language barriers, economic disparities, and cultural differences can often create obstacles to full participation in the life of our Church. Yet, these challenges also present an opportunity – an opportunity to listen, to learn, and to become more inclusive as a community of believers.
In the Diocese of Harrisburg, we need to be striving to create environments where every individual feels valued. I encourage all Catholics to reach out to our Hispanic brothers and sisters by attending a bilingual Mass, participating in cultural events, or simply by reaching out to a neighbor. These small moments of encounter can lead to greater understanding and to the formation of relationships that build unity in our communities.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we know that we are called to service. Â Hispanic Heritage Month presents an opportunity to consider ways that we can all support the Hispanic ministries in our Diocese, by volunteering our time, sharing our resources, and by advocating for policies that support all our brothers and sisters in need, and welcome immigrant families and individuals into our communities. When we give of ourselves, we truly reflect the love of Christ in the world.
Please join me in asking the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas, that she may guide us in our efforts to build a welcoming Church for all, and in celebrating the gift of our cultural diversity. In so doing, we will be working together to build communities where every person, regardless of their background, knows that they belong.
Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior
Bishop of Harrisburg
