HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, Bishop of Harrisburg, released the following statement in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
The impact of Hurricane Helene has been widely reported in recent days. I invite all the clergy, religious and lay faithful of the Diocese of Harrisburg to pray for the repose of the souls of all who have died because of the storm. May they rest in peace! Please pray also for those who remain missing, and for families who have lost their homes and livelihoods. The emotional toll of such devastation is unimaginable, and we stand united in compassion and solidarity with all who are suffering.
Amid the sadness and loss, we are also inspired by the courageous service of first responders and emergency workers who have been working to save lives and to alleviate the impact of this disaster as much as possible. Their commitment, resilience, and tireless efforts are truly heroic. They remind us of the strength of community and the power of selflessness in times of crisis.
As Christians, we are called not only to pray but also to act. If you are able, I invite you to join me in supporting the Hurricane Helene relief efforts through a financial contribution to Catholic Charities USA. Local Catholic Charities agencies are on the ground in the affected communities, providing essential services and support to those in need. Your generosity can help ensure that families have food, shelter, clean water, and the resources necessary to begin the long road to recovery. To support these efforts, please visit https://grco.de/bfRiou.
Please join me in prayer that God, who is our refuge and strength, our rock in the midst of the storm, and our light in the darkness, will grant mercy and compassion to those suffering, comfort those grieving, and give courage to those responding. May our Blessed Mother, Comfort of the Afflicted, pray for them!
Sincerely in Christ,
Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior
Bishop of Harrisburg
