About the Diocesan Schola Cantorum

The Schola Cantorum is a group of volunteer and professional choral musicians from across the diocese who form the choir for major diocesan events throughout the year, such as the ordinations of deacons and priests, the Chrism Mass, and the diocesan Mass for the Faithful Departed, in addition to presenting sacred music concerts.

Joining the Diocesan Schola Cantorum

Membership is open to all experienced choral singers, and members can choose the events in the coming season to which they are able to commit. All new members must complete a voice placement audition, consisting of vocalizing, to help us best place you based on your vocal range and timbre. To schedule a voice placement audition, please contact us.

Following your voice placement audition, you will be invited to fill out a form indicating your availability for the different events on our calendar. Based on that information, as well as considering the physical space available and choral balance needed for each event, you will be assigned to all or some of the events for which you indicated you were available. Later, should you find out you’re unable to fulfill your commitment, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may offer the opportunity to another singer. It is also anticipated that other liturgies and events for which the Schola Cantorum is requested may arise during the year, in which case we will reach out to you.
