HARRISBURG, Pa. – Today, the Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, Bishop of Harrisburg, released the following statement on the May 21 shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum.
“The shocking shooting deaths of two young staff members of the Israeli Embassy at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday evening are a tragic reminder of the pervasive violence fueled by hate and intolerance in our society.
“In the name of all the clergy, consecrated religious and lay faithful of the Diocese of Harrisburg, I offer our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Sara Lynn Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky. May their memories be a blessing.
“As Catholics, we are committed to the eradication of any form of hatred and antisemitism. We stand together against this and all forms of senseless violence and reaffirm our commitment to promoting understanding, compassion, and respect for one another, regardless of our backgrounds.
“To our Jewish brothers and sisters, we stand with you, grieve with you, and pray that the God of justice and peace will comfort and strengthen you. I call on all our Catholic faithful in the Diocese to stand against hate and antisemitism, and to create environments where love and acceptance thrive, and the God-given dignity of every person is respected.”
